Featured Experience
Our Roots & Records experiences are designed to meet each individual visitor’s needs. To begin the process, we'll have a conversation with you (conducted via Skype or Zoom) to get an idea of your family research interests and goals. For example, is there a specific place or event you're interested in learning about, is there a specific family member you'd like us to trace, or do you want to fill in missing blanks in your family tree? We'll explore all the options with you to get a true sense of what you'd like to accomplish on this tour.
After our initial conversation, we'll design a personalized experience/ itinerary for your forthcoming tour based on your needs. At this point in the process, a 20% deposit will be required to move forward. After receiving your deposit, we'll provide you with your personalized family research experience that may include some or all of the following features: |
- Newspaper archives research
- Contacting family members prior to your arrival
- Cemetery searches for family members graves
- Scouting villages and sites relevant to family history
- Births/deaths records research
- Marriage records research
- Town and country/land registries for deeds/land records
Although there are never any guarantees when it comes to family history research, our Roots & Records experiences provide you the opportunity to learn and live the culture of your heritage and create memories for future generations.
You'll spend a week (7 days/6 nights) with us touring and exploring key points of interest to you and your family. Along the way, we'll try to fit in as many built and natural heritage sites as time permits. For an additional cost, your Roots & Records Experience can be upgraded to include signed, original photographic portraits of you, your family members, drone imagery of landscapes of your ancestral village/town, or your favourite heritage site by Dr. Kevin Browne, co-founder of the Caribbean Memory Project.
At the end of the experience, we’ll compile a beautiful memory page for you on caribbeanmemoryproject.com, including a brief history of the local area where your family lived, an interactive family timeline (or the lifetime of a particular family member), video of your (re)union with family members, and any related family genealogy we discover along the way. The page will also include space for any photographs you took of your trip, your written reflections of the experience, and questions for continued research. You will retain the copyright to the info you contribute to this page, and it may also be password-protected for yours and your family's privacy.

About Your Hosts
Your Roots and Records experience is hosted by Kevin A. Browne, PhD and television/film producer Dawn Cumberbatch, cofounders of The Caribbean Memory Project.
The Caribbean Memory Project was founded to engage individuals and communities in the multimodal collection, preservation, and publication of their stories. These stories—as repositories of knowledge—not only help to define our unique identity, but also provide the kind of awareness that will ensure the continuity of that identity in the shifting contexts of everyday life. What can be taken for granted can easily be denied and, even more easily, be forgotten. To counteract this effect, we want to inspire and nurture a sense of conscious citizenship that is moulded through the deep, sustained exploration and understanding of the individual and collective experiences of Caribbean citizens everywhere. |
