Natural Heritage Experiences
Asa Wright Centre & Scenic Arima Valley Drive
Join us for a scenic drive through the lush Arima Valley. At 10:30 am, we'll stop in at the world renowned Asa Wright Nature Centre for a guided walk with one of the centre's professional guides. After the walk, which lasts for approximately one and a half hours, we'll relax and have lunch on the Jade Vine Terrace or Verandah, which offer spectacular views of the Arima Valley, several species of birds, agoutis, iguanas, Tegu lizards, and other animals that make their home in the valley.
After lunch, we'll continue our drive through the tropical rain forest, passing through several cocoa, coffee, and citrus estates. We'll also pass the villages of Morne La Croix, Morne Bleu, Blanchisseuse, La Filette, and finally, Las Cuevas, where we'll stop for an afternoon swim. If time permits, we'll stop at the Las Lapas lookout for pictures and a taste of local delicacies. |
Central Trinidad & The Caroni Bird Sanctuary
During our Central Trinidad, we'll visit a series of important religious sites, Hindu shrines such as the Temple in the Sea, the
Sri Dattatreya Yoga Centre, and the 85 foot tall Hanuman Murti, the largest Hanuman murti outside India. We'll stop for lunch at Our Lady of Montserrat Church at Tortuga, which offers scenic views of the Caroni plains from its spot on the Montserrat Hills for which the church is named. After lunch, We'll make our way to the Caroni Swamp, the breeding and nesting ground of over 100 bird species. The Caroni Bird Sanctuary is a 12,000 acre wildlife reserve that is home to one of Trinidad and Tobago’s national birds, the Scarlet Ibis. |
Home to over 100 bird species, the Caroni Swamp is a 12,000 acre wildlife sanctuary and is home to one of Trinidad and Tobago’s national birds, the Scarlet Ibis. We'll journey on a flat-bottomed boat through magical waterways and lagoons lined with dense mangrove forests. Along the way, look out for hermit crabs, blue and white egrets, owls, silky anteaters, caimans, and other animals. We'll finish our tour at sunset, as we watch hundreds of Scarlet Ibis and other bird species return from their feeding grounds to roost for the night.
Down The Islands
Five Islands Tour and Sea Bath at Scotland Bay
Enjoy a boat tour around the islands off the northwestern peninsula of Trinidad. If you're lucky, you may see dolphins frolicking in the surrounding waters. Gasparee Cave Tour An extraordinary cave system filled with stalactites and stalagmites on Gaspar Grande or Gasparee Island. We'll descend 100 feet underground to see its natural wonders, including the crystal clear pool. Chacachacare We'll spend the day exploring Chacachacare, the westernmost of the Bocas Islands that belong to Trinidad and Tobago. Beginning with an informal exploration of the abandoned Leper Colony, which was closed in 1984, we'll then hike up to the lighthouse, and end the day with a visit to the salt pond and Bande de Sud. |
